When Repair Beats Replacement
Not every siding problem means new siding. A windstorm peels three panels off the gable. A ladder cracks a section by the second-floor window. Woodpeckers drill a cedar board. A hose bib leaks and rots a two-foot section. The other 95 percent of your siding is fine. Replacing all of it would be malpractice — or at least a waste of your money.
We do honest repair work. We will also tell you when repair is throwing money at a failing system. If we find widespread issues during a repair visit — brittle panels across the whole wall, rot behind multiple sections — we will show you and let you decide. No upsell pressure; just the facts and both prices.
Repairs We Do Most
- Storm-blown panels. Wind gets under a loose panel and peels a run. We re-secure or replace the run and — importantly — figure out why it came loose. Often it is a nailing issue from the original install, and neighboring panels are at risk too.
- Cracked and broken vinyl. Individual panels unzip and swap out cleanly. The trick is matching: we carry common profiles and colors, and for discontinued lines we will tell you upfront if a perfect match is impossible and show you the closest option before we start.
- Woodpecker and insect damage. Common on cedar and engineered wood near wooded lots. Damaged boards get replaced, and we address what attracted them — often it is insects in the first place, which means checking for the underlying issue, not just the holes.
- Rotted sections. Usually at the bottom courses where splashback or a failed gutter kept things wet. We cut out the rot, check the sheathing behind it, replace what is damaged, and fix the water source. Repairing rot without fixing the water is a recurring appointment.
- Loose trim and J-channel. The small stuff that looks bad and lets water in. Quick, affordable, and worth doing before it becomes big stuff.
Matching: The Honest Conversation
Siding fades. A new panel next to a fifteen-year-old wall will not match perfectly on day one — the old has weathered, the new has not. On shaded walls the difference is minor; on sun-blasted south walls it can be noticeable. We will show you the match before we install and give you the straight assessment. Sometimes the right answer is replacing a full wall section so the eye reads it as intentional. Sometimes a close match on a small repair is genuinely fine. You decide with full information.
What It Costs
Most repairs fall between $300 and $2,500 depending on scope — a few swapped vinyl panels on the low end, multi-board cedar repair with sheathing work on the high end. We price repairs as a flat quote, not time-and-materials, so you know the number before we start. If during the work we find the damage is worse than expected, we stop, show you, and re-quote before proceeding. No surprises.
Storm Damage and Insurance
If a storm did it, your homeowner's insurance may cover it. We document damage with photos and measurements in the format adjusters expect, and we can meet the adjuster on site. See our storm damage and insurance claims guide for how the process works. One note: we do not inflate estimates or manufacture damage. We document what is there.
