Trim Is What Separates Good Siding From Great Siding
Two houses can have the same siding and look completely different. The difference is trim — the boards around windows and doors, the corner boards, the band between stories, the gable details. Cheap trim or skipped trim makes even premium siding look flat and unfinished. Proper trim gives the house depth, shadow lines, and a finished look that reads as quality from the street.
We do trim as part of every siding job, and as standalone work when the siding is fine but the details are tired.
PVC Trim: The End of Rot
Wood trim rots — especially window sills, corner boards near grade, and anything horizontal where water sits. We install cellular PVC trim that looks like wood, cuts like wood, paints like wood, and never rots. It costs more than wood trim up front and then never costs you again. For any trim within a foot of the ground or in a splash zone, PVC is not optional in our book — it is the only thing we will install.
Shutters
Shutters are jewelry for the house — small, but they change the whole face. We install raised-panel and louvered shutters sized correctly for the windows (a shutter should look like it could actually cover the window — too-narrow shutters are the most common mistake we see). Vinyl shutters are maintenance-free; composite shutters hold paint longer and look sharper up close. Either way, they get mounted on proper hardware, not just caulked to the siding.
Gable Accents
The gable — the triangular wall under the roof peak — is a natural accent spot. Options include cedar-look shingles, board-and-batten in a contrasting color, or a decorative gable vent. A gable accent breaks up a large flat wall and adds the kind of detail that makes a house memorable. It is also one of the most cost-effective upgrades we do: a day or two of work, dramatic visual change.
Column Wraps and Porch Details
Front porch columns take a beating and show it. We wrap structural posts in PVC or composite column wraps — square or round, with cap and base molding — that look like painted wood and never need scraping. While we are there, porch ceilings, railings, and skirt boards can all be refreshed in rot-proof materials.
What It Costs
Trim and accent work varies widely with scope: a shutter refresh might run $800 to $2,000, full PVC window and corner trim on a two-story home $4,000 to $9,000, gable accents $1,200 to $3,500. As part of a siding replacement the incremental cost is lower since crew and staging are already on site. Send the form with what you have in mind and we will quote it precisely.
